He conceived the project on the unique idea of converting a leisure activity like cycling into something much more productive for the environment and in terms of the health of citizens.
The project, which has helped several cities around the world deal with rising pollution and traffic jams on congested streets, was started in Ghatkopar on Monday. These spots have been selected on an experimental basis on the footfall experienced by them during peak hours.” The BMC has supported the project by allotting five spots at different places in the city to start the bicycle depots.The programme has been earmarked to promote physical fitness among Mumbaikars, and help fight traffic congestion and rising pollution levels in Mumbai. However, the person looking to hire a bike needs to be a registered member with the organisation, and can hire a bicycle to commute between any two depots, among the five enlisted by the organisation
